Christmas Light Tours in Arkansas and Missouri

Lights of The Ozarks

On the evening before Thanksgiving in 1994, a lighted fire truck started at Drake Field airport and headed north on 71-B toward the NWA Mall. Businesses along the way turned on their lights as the fire truck passed by. The fire truck circled the Fayetteville square, which was lit one block at a time. After lighting the square, the truck then proceeded to the Mall. Events coordinated with the first Lights of the Ozarks included choirs on the square, Bugs in the Lights (a VW Bug show), a Jingle Bell Jog, a home decorating contest, and a holiday parade. Stewart Family Lights

“It’s a little bit hard to explain how it happened,” Carlin Stewart said recently while mingling with visitors to the display on a chilly night. “We moved here in 2003 and were excited to decorate the house for Christmas. We had lights on the house and one inflatable. It was really a pretty small start. But we added more each year, which is the result.” “Honestly, we’re not quite sure how many inflatables we have,” Kim Stewart said. “We had a little girl tell us this year that she counted 250. We’re taking her word for it.”

Bentonville Square Lights

Thirty-five miles of holiday lights, to be exact.
While the lights come to life on November 20th, installing the holiday lights began back in early September. Each year, a crew of 24 employees from the City of Bentonville’s Parks & Recreation department work for weeks (3,100 hours!) to meticulously ensure each light is in place and ready for the big reveal at Lighting of the Square.  In the middle of the Bentonville Square, a 22-foot animated Christmas tree will sync to holiday music each night until 11:00 pm from November 20th through January 1st.
